Sensory Presence
with Bowden Pillars Future
A Nature Connection Workshop with an optional writing element.
Thursday 4th June - 10am - 1.30pm

An opportunity to relax, deepen into your senses and learn about the more-than-human-presences on this land.
Spending time with these beautiful old beech trees, at the top of the hill over-looking Totnes, we will explore sensory awareness and more‑than‑human presence. We will reflect and integrate through sharing and honouring our experience.
You can also, under my guidance, write a poem about your sensory experience and contribute to a co-created poem about our collective experience of the land.
What people say...
Sooth Root experiences are curated with three elements often woven together.
Creativity
Creativity is a doorway into self, an expression of thoughts and feelings, a way of connecting and a way of honouring.
When we create as a playful query, curious about what will emerge, the thing we create becomes a mirror, a refection of what is within us, with this reflection we can start a conversation and discover more about ourselves through the process.
When we create we offer ourselves a space for catharsis, a way to express what has not found another place or time to be expressed.
When we create, and share with others, we find common ground or support, helping us to feel less alone in our experiences. Co-creating art brings cohesion and joy in shared generation.
Finally creating art to honour is an ancient act that we as humans have been engaging in for thousands of years. Making art as a gift of gratitude and respect to another being, to the land or to anything else, taps us back into this ancient ritual way of being. It supports our human need for creative ritual acts and maintains our connection to the things we honour.

Nature Connection
Birdsong, flowing water, breeze through leaves all these things bring us calm by inviting us to be present with the simple, yet deeply rewarding, sensory experience of our bodies in nature.
Exploring the natural world with child-like curiosity and awe brings us into a playful, simplified way of being that is good for both our mental and physical health. It also enhances our sense of connection and belonging to, and therefore our care for, the natural world.
Sooth Root spaces invite participants to engage with the human experience, not as one that is separate from the rest of nature but part of it. We are natural, we are nature, sometimes we simply forget when overly engaged with the modern human world and it's demands.
Time in nature is not just a reset for us it is an opportunity to get to know our more than human kin.

Story
I seek out, live alongside, and tell stories because they hold doorways, keys, mirrors, and maps. Their worlds are filled with characters who imitate us, oppose us, trick us, inspire us, and point the way—speaking in a symbolic language that slips beneath the reasoning mind and touches something deeper.
Stories weave our troubles and triumphs into enchanted worlds of talking animals and triple wishes; places where hands can grow back, dolls can guide us, and rivers can be crossed on sheets pulled tight by older women.
Working with stories as ways of understanding ourselves, others and our place in the world never ceases to be a rich and rewarding pathway for cultivating deeper connection and understanding.

Writing...
If you love stories, exploring them through creativity and embodied experiencing, then Eye of Buzzard Beak of Wren is for you. Each month we share a different audio of a story, explore it through creativity, nature connection or ritual prompts and investigate it through articles.
